Punk Rock Girl Bands
Women have carved out a path in a field that was predominately inhabited by men. Bringing a different feeling and set of skills to the table, the female punk rock sound has it's own spot in the rebellious, in your face realm of punk rock.
Often underrated, many people associate female fronted bands to be entirely emotional, cheesy chick rock, and it simply isn't the case. Perhaps it is easier to write something off when you don't fully give it a chance.
Female punk rock music is varied and goes from one end of the spectrum to the other, all with different things to offer.Just like music written by men, it can't be judged as a whole, and there are hit and misses with every album.
This list is just the tip of the iceberg. Exploring the genre will help the listener get a full grasp of the unique sound of female driven music in the punk rock category. While this list is not exclusively punk rock, it prepares the reader to further delve into the genre with a little advice and direction.
Go With Your Instinct
The most important thing about music is to go with your instinct. Listen to what feels good to you, and makes you feel good. It doesn't matter what other people think, or their perception of your album collection, mp3 playlist, or cd collection. Whatever platform you choose, whatever style you prefer, it is all up to you. For me personally, that is one of the reasons I find music so empowering. There is a vast world of new sounds to experiment with, and it is all up to you what you chose to listen to.
Music can help change your mood, as well as your perspective on life and all sorts of subjects. Sometimes the experience of others told through music can change your life, as well as stimulate your emotions and thought process.
Sites like projectplaylist.com and the Myspace music area make it really easy to sample and test out styles and genres of music that are new to you.
You can find many of the albums in this guide in the sites mentioned above. You probably won't like every item mentioned, but this article can help point you in the right direction and help you put a toe in the water.
Unique Female Vocals
If you are looking for a girly girl, bubble gum sound, then you have come to the wrong place. Women in rock and rock often have unique, touch vocals, and a brash, hard rocking type of sound. The female gender is not limited to sweet crooning tunes, but has a wide range of capabilities.
Often women do not get the credibility that they deserve, and may be looped in to categories that they do not belong in. It may sound cliche, but women can rock just as hard as any man, and excel in their craft. From cutting edge bass sounds, to the guitar, to drums and vocals, female fronted bands produce killer albums, and often put on quite the live show.
One of my all time personal favorites is the Distillers. While they are seemingly no longer together, Brody's raw voice has such an edge to it that it is hard to ignore. Immediately recognizable, I believe that part of the reason that the Distillers got the attention that they did is because of her unique vocals. Of course, I am not trying to downplay the rest of the band. They are great artists in their own right, from the bassist to the guitarist to the drummer.
Now Brody has gone in a different direction and produces work with the band Spinnerette. Her vocals are still great, but Spinnerette produces a different type of sound and operates within an entirely different genre of music.

Nice list. How about Fanny (http://www.fannyrocks.com/)? They're pre-punk, but they rock as hard as anyone, and were (I believe) the first all girl rock band.
